Hypnobirth : and the evidence-based medicine

Hebat! Siap masuk suratkhabar lagi.

Beranak kat rumah mesti lah tak bayar kan. Mak cakap saya dilahirkan di dapur. Tak sempat pergi hospital kot? Start anak ke-3 (my brother) baru mak beranak di hospital.

Kalau ikutkan saya ok je kalau Naqi or kawan-kawan saya yang tolong saya give birth. Ada orang supervise la tapi. Hehe.macam best ja kalau kawan-kawan yang buat :P Yang penting prepare gunting, clamp, suntik oxytocin, ubat misoprostol, cairan dah cucuk siap2, dan apa2 yang patutlah. Hihi. Berangan je lebih kan saya ni. Cakap macam senang je :P Tapi, ikutkan peraturan, mana boleh family treat / manage family sendiri.

Ok la mari kita baca EBM tentang hypnobirth, yang lain-lain saya share waktu lain kalau dah belajar lebih lanjut pasal ni. Sangat berharap dapat practice dari sekarang :)

Antara studies yang mentioned tentang kebaikan hypnobirth :

1. Shawn Gallagher, B.A., R.M., C.Ht, (2001) Hypnosis for Childbirth: A retrospective survey of birth outcome using prenatal self-hypnosis, Retrospective Survey Length of labor: The average length of active labor for nulliparous women is 12 hours. Participants in the Hypnosis for Childbirth series averaged 4.5 hours of active labor. The average length of pushing for nulliparous women is about 2 hours. Participants in the Hypnosis for Childbirth series averaged just over 1 hour. Hypnosis is associated with faster births (statistically significant) throughout the research for both the first and second stages of labor. Medication rates:The epidural rate in Toronto and Mississauga ranges from 40 to 95% for nulliparous women. This survey notes an 18% epidural rate for Hypnosis for Childbirth participants (11% for caesarians and forceps, 7% for maternal request). This survey’s reduction in medication use is supported by statistically significant reductions in other research for women using hypnosis preparation for birth.

2. Martin, A.A., et al., (2001) Effects of Hypnosis on the Labor Processes and Birth Outcomes of Pregnant Adolescents, Journal of Family Practice, May 2001. “Hypnotic preparation for labor and delivery can be an effective intervention in: 1) reducing the number of complications, 2) reducing surgical interventions, 3) reducing length of postpartum hospital stay.

3. Am J Clin Hypn 2004 Apr;46(4):299-312 (ISSN: 0002-9157) Mehl-Madrona LE. ‘Women receiving prenatal hypnosis had significantly better outcomes than women who did not. Further assessment suggested that hypnosis worked by preventing negative emotional factors from leading to a complicated birth outcome. Attention only was associated with minimal differences in outcome over the no-contact group. The routine prenatal use of hypnosis could improve obstetric outcome’Comparative studies, cesarean, with HypnoBirthing, Maternity Center Association and the Center for Disease Control. 17% of HypnoBirthing mothers birthed via Cesarean (2005-06; n=497) compared to 32% of the mothers in LTM II study, Maternity Center Association (2006) The CDC reported the Cesarean rate for all births in 2004 was 29.1%.
